Smokey’s BBQ

What a great day for a ride.  Three good friends, Gary, Rod and Greg accompanied me on a back-roads ride to Wellsville, KS.  Wellsville is the home of Smokey’s BBQ (http://www.smokeysbbqks.com/), a larrapin good place to eat with that small town ambiance.

I really enjoyed a beef and pork sandwich with a side of beans – like I said – larrapin good.  In fact, three of us had the same thing.beef & pork on a bun with beans at Smokey's BBQGreg was the odd man out ordering a plain ole beef sandwich.


From Wellsville we rode to Olathe and Louisburg before riding on home.  A really great ride of 135 miles.  It was in the low 60’s when we started and the high today was 75.

 One day, while browsing through Facebook, I came upon this "Guide to Things to do in Topeka, KS" . So today, Chris and I decided to check a few of these sites out for ourselves. In the past I've been told that folks have trouble accessing my Google photos when clicking on the link at the end of the blog. As a result, I will start posting more of my photos in this blog. Chris and I both had a late breakfast (brunch?) so we didn't leave home until after 11:00AM. We took the back roads (32 west from Bonner Springs to Lawrence; 24 west to Topeka). While waiting for a train we noticed it was 64 degrees outside so we put the top down for our exploration of Topeka. Florida Trip; Day 12

We got a late start today because we wanted to take advantage of the B&B breakfast. It was worth it. Yesterday afternoon, while driving around Cedar Key for a few miles we had the top down on our convertible. Today we started with it down at 9:30AM. It was sunny and 58 degrees, soon to rise into the 60's and eventually to 70.  Our route today was 24 north and east away from Cedar Key; 345 north; 98 north and west to near Wakula, FL; 20 west to Bountstown, FL; 71 north; I-10 west to exit 130; 231 north to the area of Montgomery, AL. Along the way we stopped at a park where the highway (98) crosses the Suwannee River at Fanning Springs, FL. We were really enjoying the top-down driving but at Wakula, FL the temperature had dropped to 64 and it was cloudy making it a bit cool so we stopped to put the top up. Arizona Trip; Day 4 (Holbrook, AZ to Prescott, AZ)

We blew out of Holbrook, AZ at 9:00am. It was cloudy and 42 degrees. I-40 took us west a short distance to Winslow, AZ, where we stopped to get a few photos "standing on the corner in Winslow, Arizona." Our route continued westbound on I-40 to Flagstaff, where we turned south on I-17 and then 89A towards Sedona, AZ. As we started south on 89A from I-17 we were at a high enough elevation that there was still snow along the road. It was also 40 degrees. The ride through Oak Creek Canyon into Sedona was beautiful. Chris made an attempt to take photos from the car because we could not find a suitable place to stop but the photos don't do justice to the scenery. We found a parking area in Sedona and spent a little time wandering around, shopping and taking photos. The red rock formations surrounding the city were gorgeous. Eventually we enjoyed lunch at Sedona Pizza Company. After lunch we rode south on 179 to Bell Rock. The scenery along the way was beautiful....
