Lunch Ride Plus
Good friend, Gary, planned a lunch ride today since
it was to be a very warm January day. We met at Quik Trip in western Shawnee at
noon and it was 54 degrees under blue clear skies.
Present were 6 Goldwing riders (Gary, Bill, Greg, Bruce, Carl and me), 1 HD rider (Rod) and 1 car driver (Bill2). Bill’s car is a very nice old hotrod.
Carl forgot to bring his wallet so, after going by his house, we rode west through Bonner Springs and north to Basehor, where we stopped to eat at Kelley’s Grill and Bar.
Gary’s girlfriend, Bambi, had ridden her Harley trike there and was waiting when we arrived. Carl and I enjoyed our tenderloins and Gary said his prime rib sandwich was very good. After lunch Bambi and Gary posed for a photo on her trike. That would look funny rolling down the highway.
Rod and Bill2 took off for home to do some work on Bill2’s car. Bambi left for home. The rest of us went for a little ride; west through Tonganoxie, almost to McClouth, west through Jarbalo to Leavenworth via back roads, and north to Atchison. When were in Leavenworth Bruce peeled off to head home. From Atchison we crossed the Missouri River into Missouri and started heading back south. We crossed the Missouri River again riding into Leavenworth, KS where we picked up Hwy 7 south into Lansing. We made our first DQ stop of 2016 in Lansing and enjoyed a Blizzard. As we were preparing to turn into the DQ, Greg peeled off and rode on home so just Gary, Bill, Carl and I enjoyed the ice cream.
Hwy 7 took us back into Shawnee and we broke off to head to our respective homes. On my way home I had to stop for a train on 47th Street so I took the opportunity to take a photo..
It was a great ride; 144 miles with a high temperature of 60. What an excellent way to spend a January afternoon!
