K-7 to White Cloud & Nebraska
It was to be a beautiful day so, spur of the moment, I reached out to brother Carl and friends Gary and Bill to see if they'd like to take a little trip north up K-7 Highway to White Cloud and the Nebraska line. They were in! It seemed like a good way to recover a little mental health that's been lost during this COVID-19 pandemic. Get outside and travel with good friends while maintaining social distance.
We met at the QT in western Shawnee at 10:30 . . . . .
and departed at about 10:40 headed north. Temperature was in the low 60's. The route was K-7 north from Shawnee all the way to the Nebraska line. K-7 north out of Atchison is designated as the Glacial Hills Scenic Byway. It was a pretty day and a relaxing drive-ride.
There was not much traffic so, at the Nebraska border we stopped to stretch and shoot the bull.
After the break we turned around and headed back south to Atchison, where we stopped at Sonic to acquire some chow, which we took to the banks of the Missouri River for a little picnic lunch.
After lunch we gassed up, crossed the river into Missouri and caught Hwy 45 south towards Weston and Parkville.
I-435 southbound took us into Kansas and Shawnee, where we split up and headed to our respective homes. It was an enjoyable trip and it was great catching up with the guys. I arrived home at 3:40. Today's travels covered 185 miles. High temperature was 75.
