Lunch in Leavenworth
A fine day for a top-down drive to Leavenworth for lunch. A little warm, perhaps, but what the heck.
My route was I-435 north and Hwy 5 northwest to Leavenworth. On the way home it was 92 east across the Missouri River, 45 south, and I-435 back home. Hwy 5 is an enjoyable but too short rural route with twists and turns over hill and dale. I used to ride it on my motorcycle when I needed a quick pick-me-up.
I enjoyed lunch at the Depot Restaurant, a former train depot converted to a restaurant. I deviated from my normal cuisine by ordering a chop salad with bleu cheese dressing. It was very good.
There's a river-side park in Leavenworth called Leavenworth Landing. I had never visited so today I did. It provides a great view of the Missouri River.
At first I intended to go home via Tonganoxie and DeSoto but as I was driving west through Leavenworth I changed my mind. I drove east on 92 and crossed the Missouri River into Missouri.
The drive home was with the top up. It was a little over 90 with high humidity, which made me appreciate the cooled seats and air conditioning. I didn't keep track of miles driven but it was well under 100. A nice little lunch drive.
