My Dad turned 83 today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Buff!
Our trip today started at 6:20 AM in 74 degree temperature. We took Hwy 74 east across the Mississippi River bridge into Illinois onto Hwy 146 east to Hwy 3 south to Cairo, IL. We crossed the Ohio River into Kentucky where we rode east on Hwy 60 to Paducah, KY. Just east of Paducah I took a wrong turn and crossed the Tennessee River. After a very short roundabout we were back on track on Hwy 68 southeast to Fairdealing, KY where we took a butt break.
Hwy 68 then took us east across the Land Between the Lakes where there was much highway construction in progress. We continued east to Hopkinsville where we turned southeast on Hwy 41.
At Pembroke, KY we stopped for gas. In Guthrie, KY Chris shot a picture of a yellow house she thought was quite colorful. The picture shows the house is actually orange so I don’t know if Chris tends toward the colorblind or if the camera did not accurately capture the yellow color????
Hwy 41 took us into Tennessee. We stopped for lunch at a Wendy’s in Springfield, TN. Chris was drawn by a sign advertising toffee coffee twisted frosty. It really was tasty.
We wanted to avoid interstate highway travel but in Springfield we made the decision to use the interstates to get around Nashville as quickly as possible. Hwy 431 took us south out of Springfield to I-24 south which connected with 155 east and south around Nashville to I-40 east. At Lebanon, TN we exited the interstate and took Hwy 70 east to Crossville, TN. 70 was a very slow route with a great deal of traffic. If I had it to do over again I would have continued east on I-40 to Crossville.
We stopped for the day in Crossville. Temperatures never exceeded the 80’s so the riding was more comfortable than in day 1. We chose Super 8 again for lodging and, again, we enjoyed a dip in the motel pool to cool off and exercise.
