The Falken has Landed

I mounted the Falken Ziex ZE912 on the rear wheel of my Goldwing yesterday. It looks good. I am anxious to get out on the road and test it out.

Arizona Trip; Day 4 (Holbrook, AZ to Prescott, AZ)

We blew out of Holbrook, AZ at 9:00am. It was cloudy and 42 degrees. I-40 took us west a short distance to Winslow, AZ, where we stopped to get a few photos "standing on the corner in Winslow, Arizona." Our route continued westbound on I-40 to Flagstaff, where we turned south on I-17 and then 89A towards Sedona, AZ. As we started south on 89A from I-17 we were at a high enough elevation that there was still snow along the road. It was also 40 degrees. The ride through Oak Creek Canyon into Sedona was beautiful. Chris made an attempt to take photos from the car because we could not find a suitable place to stop but the photos don't do justice to the scenery. We found a parking area in Sedona and spent a little time wandering around, shopping and taking photos. The red rock formations surrounding the city were gorgeous. Eventually we enjoyed lunch at Sedona Pizza Company. After lunch we rode south on 179 to Bell Rock. The scenery along the way was beautiful....

Iowa Waterfalls; Day 2

At 8:10 we rode away from our motel in Marshalltown, IA to the Union Grove State Park south of Gladbrook, IA.  It was 54 degrees with mostly blue clear skies.  We rode all around the park and saw no signs indicating there was a waterfall anywhere.  We were here because this web site told us there was a waterfall ( onlyinyourstate-IowaWaterfalls ).  We parked at the only place where it looked like a waterfall might be and walked a wooded path up to the lake.  There is a spillway at the southeast end of the lake that, when overflowing, would create a waterfall here. Today it was a dry hole and looked like it had been that way a loooong time. After the failed waterfall sighting we rode through Gladbrook, IA.  Two very good friends of ours, Lib and Steve, grew up in this area. California Trip; Days 16 and 17

On Saturday, June 26, we departed Steamboat Springs, CO at 8:00 am.  It was sunny and 57 degrees.  We rode east on Hwy 24 to Kimmerling for a bathroom break and then to Granby for gas. Near the gas station was a jerky, fur, and antler chandelier vendor.  They had a bear skin outside and other types of skins inside.  It was interesting. From Granby we rode north into Rocky Mountain National Park.  The views were fantastic. We knew from watching the news the night before that there was a forest fire in Rocky Mountain National Park.  On the way out of the park riding toward Loveland, CO we saw and smelled smoke from the forest fire. We ate lunch at the Dari Delite in Loveland and then gassed up in Fort Morgan, CO.  We rode east into Nebraska and then south to Goodland, KS, where we spent the night at the Days Inn.
