Elephant Rocks State Park; Day 4

Image
We really got around early this morning.  We were on the road by 8:15 and four blocks down the road we stopped at McDonalds for breakfast.  It was cloudy and it had rained in the night in places (roads were still wet) but it was a warm 64 degrees. From Mackie D’s we rode a few miles north to Elephant Rocks State Park and enjoyed a walk around and on the granite. We hit the road for home, Hwy 21 north to Potosi, Hwy 8 west to St. James, and Hwy’s 68 and 63 north to Jefferson City, MO.  In Jefferson City we enjoyed lunch at Longhorn and got to watch a little bit of the K-State vs Southern Mississippi NCAA basketball game on the tube.  Then it was Hwy 50 on home.  We listened to the last third of the K-State game on the radio and were quite pleased the Wildcats won. When we arrived home we saw that our magnolia bush had blossomed like the bushes we saw in Arkansas and one of our trees was nearly leafed out. We rode 315 miles today. Our high temperature was 79. It was mostly cloudy

After sleeping in and another great complimentary breakfast at the Best Western Eureka Inn in Eureka Springs, AR we were on the road by 10:15.  It was mostly sunny and 73 degrees.  The high today was 84.  It’s hard to believe it’s mid-March. We rode east on Hwy 62 through Harrison and Mountain Home.  Just east of Mountain Home we turned north on Hwy 101, which took us over Norfork Lake. Just past Norfork Lake we saw the Three Rivers Biker Church.  Never saw a biker church before. Just past the biker church my motorcycle reached a new milestone . . . . . 110,000 miles on the odometer . . . . and still running like a champ. Hwy 101 took us into Missouri and Hwy 160 took us east through West Plains, MO to Hwy 17 north and Mountain View, MO. From visiting friends Ron and Terry, when they owned a place near Mountain View, we knew of Anita’s Restaurant that had larrapin good food but we could not remember where it was.  I stopped at the Mountain View community center and a lady told

WOW! What a beautiful day. We started out at 9:15 and it was 61 degrees.  The high temp today was 82 and it was all under blue clear skies.  The scenery was great too!  As I sit here writing the blog I’m enjoying a cold one.  It don’t get any better than this. We started our day with our free breakfast at the Best Western Eureka Inn.  It was bountiful and tasty.  Some might say it was larrapin good! We rode south on Hwy 23.  The road was good with twisties.  At first we encountered a minor traffic jam that threatened to delay our quick journey to the Pig Trail. One of the vehicles we had to pass was a a big truck hauling crates and crates of chickens (like the one that once made a mess of Gary’s Harley, which was being ridden by Rod).  We made it past with no chicken doo on our windshield. We finally made it to the Pig Trail, which is part of Hwy 23 ( http://www.arkansas.com/places-to-go/scenic-byways/pig-trail/ ).  The ride was superb and the scenery was great. Just south of O

Last week Chris and I saw the weather forecast for this week and decided we needed to go on a ride.  We thought about various destinations and decided to go to Eureka Springs where we would spend two nights and ride out from there. We left home shortly after 10:00 am.  The temperature was 55 as we left Shawnee.  The sun came out a short time later and our eventual high for the day was 77.  A gorgeous day for riding. We rode south to Pittsburg, KS and had a good lunch of fried chicken at Otto’s CafĂ©. From Pittsburg we rode east on Hwy 126 to Golden City and then south on Hwy 37.  Signs of spring were all over the place. At Cassville, MO we took Hwy 112 south to Roaring River State Park, where we stopped to enjoy the scenery.  Chris took a walk while I sat on my butt and watched the trout fishermen.  We rode County Road F east out of Roaring River State Park to Hwy 86 south. We turned south to Hwy 23 into Arkansas and on to Holiday Island.  Chris’ parents used to live here on a
