Elephant Rocks State Park; Day 3
After sleeping in and another great complimentary breakfast at the Best Western Eureka Inn in Eureka Springs, AR we were on the road by 10:15. It was mostly sunny and 73 degrees. The high today was 84. It’s hard to believe it’s mid-March.
We rode east on Hwy 62 through Harrison and Mountain Home. Just east of Mountain Home we turned north on Hwy 101, which took us over Norfork Lake.
Just past Norfork Lake we saw the Three Rivers Biker Church. Never saw a biker church before.Just past the biker church my motorcycle reached a new milestone . . . . . 110,000 miles on the odometer . . . . and still running like a champ.
Hwy 101 took us into Missouri and Hwy 160 took us east through West Plains, MO to Hwy 17 north and Mountain View, MO.
From visiting friends Ron and Terry, when they owned a place near Mountain View, we knew of Anita’s Restaurant that had larrapin good food but we could not remember where it was. I stopped at the Mountain View community center and a lady told me that Anita’s was closed Monday through Wednesday. She did refer us to Almost Granny’s Restaurant in Birch Tree, MO ten miles east on Hwy 60.I had the chicken livers, Chris had a grilled chicken breast, and we shared a piece of coconut cream pie. Larrapin good!
We exited Hwy 60 at Winona, MO and picked up County Road H east and north. This was a pretty little drive up to Hwy 160 and then 160 was just as pretty into Ellington, MO.
In Ellington we picked up Hwy 21 which took us north and east to Pilot Knob, MO, where we located the Fort Davidson Motel, a little “flat” motel that was nice and clean.
We arrived at the Elephant Rocks State Park at 5:25 and found out that it closed at 5:00. We’ll go back in the morning.
It was another great 290 miles of riding. Tomorrow, after visiting the park, we head for home.
