Eureka Springs, AR; Day 1
Last week Chris and I saw the weather forecast for this week and decided we needed to go on a ride. We thought about various destinations and decided to go to Eureka Springs where we would spend two nights and ride out from there.
We left home shortly after 10:00 am. The temperature was 55 as we left Shawnee. The sun came out a short time later and our eventual high for the day was 77. A gorgeous day for riding.
We rode south to Pittsburg, KS and had a good lunch of fried chicken at Otto’s Café.
From Pittsburg we rode east on Hwy 126 to Golden City and then south on Hwy 37. Signs of spring were all over the place.
At Cassville, MO we took Hwy 112 south to Roaring River State Park, where we stopped to enjoy the scenery. Chris took a walk while I sat on my butt and watched the trout fishermen. We rode County Road F east out of Roaring River State Park to Hwy 86 south.
We turned south to Hwy 23 into Arkansas and on to Holiday Island. Chris’ parents used to live here on a part time basis and Chris became attached to the Fred’s store there. We had to make a stop at Fred’s so Chris could shop. From Fred’s we rode through Holiday Island, took some pictures, and then rode on to Eureka Springs. Our lodging for two nights is the Best Western Eureka Inn, where we arrived at about 5:30.
We rode 265 enjoyable miles today. Tomorrow we’re riding south to Magazine Mountain State Park.
