Moo’s Ashes Ride; Days 3 & 4

Day 3; May 25, 2014

We had a light breakfast at the Grand Central Hotel. Later in the morning, after Carl and Marge arrived, we all rode a few miles south of Cottonwood Falls on Hwy 177 to a Flint Hills scenic overlook. This was a favorite stop for Aunt Mary on her many trips from Wichita to Shawnee. A few of Moo’s ashes were scattered at this location.Flint Hills scenic overlook 3 miles south of Cottonwood Falls, KS

Our group then split up and went two separate directions. Two car loads went to Manhattan and the rest of us went to Lyons and Sterling. On our way to Lyons we stopped at a Perkin’s in McPherson for lunch. Jane wanted to ride the Goldwing so Chris let her ride with me.Jane riding westbound on Hwy 56 west of McPherson, KS

As we rode through Lyons we spotted the house were my cousins live for awhile a long time ago. Our grandparents lived in Sterling and our grandfather was a professor of botany at Sterling College. My parents and many of our relatives attended Sterling College. We took a couple pictures here before locating our grandparents graves in the Sterling cemetery and paying our respects.Cooper Hall; Sterling College; Sterling, KS

Rather than back-tracking we rode south and east to Hutchinson and back to Cottonwood Falls on Hwy 50. We rode through about 30 miles of rain at the end of the trip. Jane wasn’t fazed at all by riding in the rain. Our ride today covered 233 miles.

That evening we enjoyed some prime rib cooked up by Pat and Candra that was served up at the house that Pat, Mike and family had rented. It was a great day.

Day 4; May 26, 2014

Our day started with another breakfast at the hotel before we walked to Pat and Mike’s rental house to socialize with our cousins and other family.cousin Pat's rental home; Cottonwood Falls, KS

It was 11:25 when we finally rode out of Cottonwood Falls. Our cousins and other family had already all gone their separate ways. We wanted to eat lunch at the Miracle Café in Reading, KS (https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Miracle-Cafe/308320036324) but it was closed for the holiday. So we stopped at Mama Rita’s in Osage City and had a very good lunch.lunch in Osage City, KS

The rest of our 145 mile day took us through Ottawa, Baldwin City, Gardner and Olathe before arriving back home. It was a partly cloudy day with a high temperature of 81. There was no rain!

It was a great trip! We paid our respects to our recently departed Aunt Moo and it was great to see our cousins and their family who joined them on this trip.
