Kentucky Ride; Day 3
It was cloudy when we woke up this morning and before we left it had rained off and on. The weather channel and local news stations provided a dismal wet forecast for us.
We left our motel at 8:45 and went back to the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial (LBNM). It was 68 degrees with rain threatening. While we were indoors at the LBNM it rained pretty hard. The rain stopped and allowed us to walk around the grounds. It is a pretty area.
Our eastbound route across southern Indiana was on Hwy 62 . . . . and I was impressed. This was the most scenic, colorful, fun to ride stretch of highway so far this trip, particularly from just west of St. Croix to Edwardsville. In several places the colorful trees provided a canopy over the highway. On top of that, there is an excellent restaurant located about midway through the route in Leavenworth, IN. Its on a bluff above the Ohio River and is appropriately named the Outlook Restaurant. Their fried chicken livers and coconut crème pie are LARRAPIN good.
Just past Edwardsville we hopped on I-64 and rode through Louisville, KY to Hwy 60 eastbound, which took us to Frankfurt, Kentucky’s state capital.
Hwy 460 then took us past some horse ranches to Paris (Kentucky) where we stopped for the night at a Best Western. We rode 200 miles today on a lot of wet highway but we saw very little rain. The high temperature today was 77.
