Anniversary Trip; Day 3
The day started with another two course Cedar Crest Lodge breakfast; blueberry pancakes followed by a western egg boat (egg over potatoes, peppers & onions) and two link sausages. It was very good - again.
At 9:30 we left for Fort Scott, Kansas but first we rode east from the Cedar Crest Lodge to see how far it was to Missouri. It was less than half a mile. We also drove through scenic downtown Pleasanton, Kansas.
In Fort Scott we started off by taking a trolley tour of the city. It was interesting but most all of the historic homes were in disrepair. Also, the brick roads and the poor trolley car suspension, shook our gizzards.
Then we walked through the Fort Scott National Historic Site and checked out some of the exhibits.
Lunch was had the Nu Grille. We really enjoyed the burgers, onion rings and tater-tots.
After walking down the main drag, where Chris did some shopping (but no buying), we rode to the south end of Fort Scott to get some pics at the National Cemetery. We saw it during the trolley tour but the trolley did not stop to allow for pics.
From there we stopped at the DQ for a blizzard before driving back to the Cedar Crest Lodge. We spent the rest of the day and evening relaxing in and around our room at the lodge and making smores at the fire pit. Life is definitely good!
We saw this bird near the Cedar Crest Lodge. Don't know what kind it was but it was pretty.
