Big Sky Tour; Day 13

Yesterday evening at our hotel in Ogallala, Nebraska was very relaxing. There was an outdoor pool and hot tub and the temperatures in both were perfect. Even Marge joined us in the pool.

Our departure this morning at 7:45 was under cloudy skies with a temperature of 70. It felt very nice and we hoped the clouds would stick around all day. Not far down the road, however, it became obvious that we'd soon run out from under the clouds. Also, not far down the road we crossed back into central time zone so we lost an hour.
Our route today was Hwy 30 eastbound from Ogallala to Grand Island and 34 eastbound to Lincoln.

On the west side of North Platte we stopped at the Golden Spike Tower, which gives a view over the Union Pacific's Bailey Yard, the largest classification rail yard in the world. It is an impressive operation, 8 miles long on 2,850 acres. It's where east meets west on the Union Pacific line.

Our next stop was at the Pony Express Station in Gothenburg, NE. It was interesting reading stories about some of the pony express riders. They were an adventurous bunch.

After a lunch break at Margarita's in Kearney, NE we traveled on east to Lincoln, arriving at our hotel at 4:05. It was a sultry 97 degrees. I was glad again today that Chris and I had the comfort of the convertible in this heat. Our route today covered 291 miles.

Tomorrow we arrive back home!
