Pictured Rocks Michigan; Day 9; Saturday 8/27/2011

Today was a day with family, who are also friends.  We rode from our motel in Keokuk to Deb & Tim’s and hung out with them.  Then we rode back to our motel.  It was a very relaxing and enjoyable day.  We rode a total of 30 miles!  And we were happy to learn that Mel and Trisha made it home safely.

Arizona Trip; Day 4 (Holbrook, AZ to Prescott, AZ)

We blew out of Holbrook, AZ at 9:00am. It was cloudy and 42 degrees. I-40 took us west a short distance to Winslow, AZ, where we stopped to get a few photos "standing on the corner in Winslow, Arizona." Our route continued westbound on I-40 to Flagstaff, where we turned south on I-17 and then 89A towards Sedona, AZ. As we started south on 89A from I-17 we were at a high enough elevation that there was still snow along the road. It was also 40 degrees. The ride through Oak Creek Canyon into Sedona was beautiful. Chris made an attempt to take photos from the car because we could not find a suitable place to stop but the photos don't do justice to the scenery. We found a parking area in Sedona and spent a little time wandering around, shopping and taking photos. The red rock formations surrounding the city were gorgeous. Eventually we enjoyed lunch at Sedona Pizza Company. After lunch we rode south on 179 to Bell Rock. The scenery along the way was beautiful....

Iowa Waterfalls; Day 2

At 8:10 we rode away from our motel in Marshalltown, IA to the Union Grove State Park south of Gladbrook, IA.  It was 54 degrees with mostly blue clear skies.  We rode all around the park and saw no signs indicating there was a waterfall anywhere.  We were here because this web site told us there was a waterfall ( onlyinyourstate-IowaWaterfalls ).  We parked at the only place where it looked like a waterfall might be and walked a wooded path up to the lake.  There is a spillway at the southeast end of the lake that, when overflowing, would create a waterfall here. Today it was a dry hole and looked like it had been that way a loooong time. After the failed waterfall sighting we rode through Gladbrook, IA.  Two very good friends of ours, Lib and Steve, grew up in this area. Spring Ride 2019

Day 1; Friday, May 3 The Spring Ride is an annual motorcycle trip undertaken each year during the first full weekend (Friday through Sunday) in May. Gary, the trip leader, invited me to participate despite the fact that I'd be driving a Mustang GT convertible. I left home at 6:10 am under cloudy skies with a temperature of 53 and a light drizzle, which ended a short time later. Our meet time was 7:00 am a Gail's Harley Davidson. I was the first to arrive when I drove into the parking lot at 6:40. My brother, Carl, was across the street availing himself of the facilities. The others trickled in until we had 10 people: nine motorcyclists (7 Honda Goldwings, 1 Yamaha Tenere and 1 BMW) and me. Chuck, who was holding the chicken from last year's ride, gave a brief presentation to announce that he'd made a box (coffin?) to hold the chicken between rides.
