Spring Break Ride 2016; Day 2
By the time we gassed up and headed south from Liberal it was 8:50 am under cloudy skies with a temperature of 46. It had been foggy earlier in the morning but it looked as though the fog was starting to lift. As we rode south, however, we found out it had just moved south.
By the time we reached Hooker, OK it was pretty much gone.
At Guymon, OK we left Hwy 54 and took off southbound on Hwy 136 into Texas. In the Oklahoma pan handle and on into Texas we saw a huge wind farm with wind turbines all over the place.
As we neared Amarillo, TX it was getting close to lunch time so I thought it would be fun to visit the Big Texan Steak Ranch. I found it in Gertie Garmin and started following Gertie's directions. She had me make one very wrong turn which prompted Carl to call me "Larry". There are a few people who will understand that reference. Eventually Gertie led us there.
Our next stop was going to be Palo Duro Canyon State Park. When we arrived, however, there was a very long line waiting to get in and way up ahead in line were numerous vehicles displaying confederate, U.S., and other flags. Some of us did not have the patience to wait it out and there were also concerns about how crowded it would be inside the park. So we u-turned, went back to Canyon, TX and decided what to do.
In the end, we returned to Amarillo to check into a motel. Then we were going to go to a movie at an AMC movie theater because Marge brought along AMC movie coupons and Carl informed us that Amarillo had an AMC theater. We checked into our motel and Carl went online to obtain the theater's address. There were no AMC theaters within 50 miles. We made use of the motel's indoor pool and hot tub instead.
We rode 235 miles today with a high temperature of 68. We're going to try to get into Palo Duro Canyon State Park in the morning.

The Big Texan Steak Ranch is a tourist trap that has a pretty good restaurant. They have a 72 ounce steak that they will let you eat for free . . . . with conditions. You have to eat it, plus all the fixins, in one hour. We had a regular lunch and paid for it.
