Anniversary Trip; Day 3

Image
The day started with another two course Cedar Crest Lodge breakfast; blueberry pancakes followed by a western egg boat (egg over potatoes, peppers & onions) and two link sausages. It was very good - again. At 9:30 we left for Fort Scott, Kansas but first we rode east from the Cedar Crest Lodge to see how far it was to Missouri. It was less than half a mile.  We also drove through scenic downtown Pleasanton, Kansas. In Fort Scott we started off by taking a trolley tour of the city. It was interesting but most all of the historic homes were in disrepair. Also, the brick roads and the poor trolley car suspension, shook our gizzards. Then we walked through the Fort Scott National Historic Site and checked out some of the exhibits. Lunch was had the Nu Grille. We really enjoyed the burgers, onion rings and tater-tots. After walking down the main drag, where Chris did some shopping (but no buying), we rode to the south end of Fort Scott to get some pics at the National Ce

The Cedar Crest Lodge sits on a little over 100 acres of land, which includes a walking trail and several ponds. The walking trail was wet and soggy in places due to recent rains but we came prepared with the proper footwear. So, after a LARRAPIN good breakfast, we set off to walk, explore, and fish. We tried one pond for over an hour and didn't catch squat. After moving on to the second pond we hit the mother lode. We caught 6 small bass in a short period of time. Fishing is much more fun when you actually catch fish. While fishing we had a snack lunch that we'd brought with us. When we returned to our room Chris found this: She was a surprised and happy camper! We had a little rest period before we got dressed up for dinner - - where we enjoyed a salad, filet mignon and strawberry rhubarb upside down cake. Another great meal and another great day. I'm sure glad she said yes 45 years ago (or so). If you want to view all the pics taken today click on th

Anniversary Trip; Day 1

We departed today on a trip to celebrate our 44th anniversary. Chris knew we were going somewhere for a few days but she did not know where. It was a big surprise! I planned it all and was hoping she would enjoy it. At 12:20 we departed home, stopped for lunch at Chick-fil-A in Overland Park and then in Olathe on the south side of Olathe Lake for a pic of the waterfall. The next stop was Osawatomie, KS for a pic of a Marsh arch triple span bridge over the Marais Des Cygnes River built in 1930. After some necessary shopping in Osawatomie (a brush for Chris and some worms for me) we took off for Pleasanton, KS and before long we arrived at our lodging for the next three nights, the Cedar Crest Lodge ( CCLodge ), located in the country up on a hill. We enjoyed a delicious dinner, a stroll around the property and rocking on the front porch. Tomorrow we celebrate our actual anniversary, 44 years of marital bliss.
