Hannigan Trailer Run

My brother, Carl, purchased a new Hannigan motorcycle trailer. He opted to pick up the finished product at the factory rather than having it shipped. The factory and show room are located just south of Murray, Kentucky. Carl was accompanied on the ride by Bill, Gary, and I.

We departed at 6:10 AM on Sunday, June 15, 2008, from Gail’s Harley Davidson in Grandview, Missouri. We rode south on 71 Highway, to just south of Harrisonville and east on 7 Highway to Clinton, Missouri. At Clinton we ate a delicious breakfast at the Boss Cafe.

From Clinton we rode south on Highway 13 to Springfield where we picked up Interstate 44 east and then Highway 65 south. We then turned onto Highway 60 east, which took us across southern Missouri. At Van Buren, Missouri we stopped for lunch at the Float Stream Restaurant. We’d eaten here earlier in the year on our spring chicken ride. The meal was good again this time.

With full bellies we continued our ride east on Highway 60 through Poplar Bluff and Sikeston, Missouri. Just west of Sikeston we hopped on Interstate 57 briefly before taking Highway 62 east from Sikeston, Missouri. We crossed the Mississippi River into Cairo, Illinois and then the Ohio River into Kentucky. Both rivers were very full and filled with barge traffic. The Ohio River was out of its banks.

We continued east on 62 to Wickliffe, Kentucky, where we picked up Highway 121 south and east. 121 took us all the way into Murray, Kentucky. We arrived at the closed Hannigan show room at approximately 4:30 PM. Carl had been told that his trailer would be on the show room floor, but we all pressed our noses against the windows and we could not locate it.

We found excellent and reasonable lodging at the Best Western University Inn. It met our needs splendidly. It had a nice clean pool to cool off in where we also enjoyed adult beverages. Right next door was Tom’s Grille and that evening Carl treated us all to a delicious dinner.

The weather this day was sunny and hot. It started off very cool (70) but it reached 91 later in the day. There was much humidity to go along with the heat.

Hannigan’s opened at 8:30 AM on Monday, June 16. We were there at 8:15. They brought out Carl’s new trailer, which was color matched to his Goldwing (blue). It was inspected by all of us and it was confirmed to be a beautiful trailer. The motorcycle wiring plug was fixed to work with the trailer and all was good. Carl was an extremely happy Hannigan trailer owner.

We were back on the road at 9:30 AM. We retraced our route back to Charleston, Missouri. There we caught Interstate 57 west to Interstate 55 north up through Cape Girardeau. We exited at Highway 72 (actually we missed it by one exit and had to take a couple scenic county roads, E & B, to get on 72) and rode west to Highway 67 north.

We had lunch at Rosener’s Restaurant (there is also a Rosener’s Motel) in Park Hills, Missouri. Carl and I enjoyed the buffet. Gary and Bill attempted to eat more reasonably by ordering off the menu but Bill’s meat loaf sandwich was humongous.

We continued north on 67 (two exits) to Highway 8. We rode west on 8 through Potosi, Steelville, and Saint James to Highway 63 north, to Highway 50 west. Highway 50 took us through Jefferson City, California, and Tipton to Sedalia, Missouri. In Sedalia we stopped at Dairy Queen for ice cream and a sorely needed butt break. Then we were back in the saddle to just west of Warrensburg, Missouri, where we made our last gas stop and said our farewells.

We took 50 on into the Kansas City area where we all went our respective ways. Total mileage today was 517 miles. The weather was fantastic. It was sunny to partly cloudy all day and the temperature never exceeded 84 degrees. It was in the 70's when we were riding to Kansas City from Jefferson City. By the time I arrived home it was 68.
