Dinner in Ft. Scott, KS

Early in the week Chris and I realized that, if the weather forecasters were correct, Wednesday would be a great day for a dinner ride somewhere in the area.  I hopped on the internet to look for interesting dining options within a reasonable distance from home and located the Nu Grille Cafe in Ft. Scott, Kansas (http://www.kansastravel.org/nugrille.htm).  We then found out that our good friends, Bill and Jamie, would go with us.  Our trip was planned.

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010, arrived with perfect weather.  We met Bill and Jamie at their house and took off shortly after 3:30 pm.  We rode south on I-35 to Olathe and then south on K-7.  It was sunny and 81 degrees.  BEAUTIFUL!

We stopped for a break in Mound City, KS at the Big Dollar Store.  Bill and I walked across the street to Casey’s for a drink and then waited for Jamie and Chris to get done shopping.DSCN2143

We continued south on K-7 to Hwy 54 where we turned east and rode 4 miles to Ft. Scott.  We found the Nu Grille Cafe.  If the number of cars parked around the cafe was any indication, the food would be larrapin good.

A couple in our group were briefly disappointed to learn that there were no chicken breasts left so they could not order the broasted chicken.  Jamie quizzed the waitress to make certain she got just what she wanted.

I ordered the jumbo cheeseburger with a side of onion rings and it was very good.  Their onion rings are hand battered.  Their french fries and Suzy Q fries were homemade.

After dinner we departed Ft. Scott northbound on Hwy 69.  We stopped for gas in Louisburg and then for a DQ at the 151 ST exit.  At one point on Hwy 69 the temperature dropped as low as 67.  The big, orange, full moon rising above the horizon was impressive.  Great evening for riding!

We arrived home around 9:30 pm with 200 miles under our belts.  It was a great ride.
