Minnwichigan; Day 1; July 5, 2014

We are on the road again. This time we’re headed to the northern reaches of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan with Carl and Marge. We left Shawnee at 10:10 and took off northbound. It was cloudy and 79 degrees.

Just south of St. Joseph, MO the clouds grew darker and it was raining. We stopped under an overpass to don our rain gear as the temperature dropped to 68. The rain stopped 30 to 40 minutes later.

We had lunch in Maryville, MO at the A&G Restaurantlunch in Maryville, MOand their food was LARRAPIN good! I highly recommend it.

Our next stop was Audubon, Iowa, where we saw Albert the Bull (http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/11321). Albert is supposed to be the biggest bull in the entire world.DSCN4624It would logically follow that Albert has the biggest nut-sac in the world. Marge gave it a great big hug.

We stopped in Pomeroy, IA at a Casey’s for gas and a break. While there, Carl bought himself a stylish new cap. new cap just purchased at Casey's in Pomeroy, IAOur goal for the day had been the Grotto of the Redemption in West Bend, IA but we figured we’d get there too late to see it plus we were ready to stop for the day. We rode 25 miles east to Fort Dodge and called it a night at a Best Western. We enjoyed a swim in the pool and a soak in the hot tub before hitting the sack.

We rode 315 miles today and the high temperature was 81. That is unbelievably great for July 5th in the Midwest.
