Northern Wanderings; Day 3

We took off this morning at 8:50 under sunny skies with a temperature of 70. We drove north on I-196 to Holland, Michigan, where we stopped at the Windmill Island Gardens and toured the authentic Dutch windmill. It looked familiar to me when we arrived and by the time we left Chris and I were both convinced that we'd been here before. Chris thinks it was with Carl and Marge. Chris has commented several times before, and I believe she's right, we could hide our own Easter eggs.

The Big Red Lighthouse, also in Holland, was our next stop.

We climbed up Mt. Pisgah, which included 239 stair steps, to get another view of the lighthouse.

From Holland we drove north on 31 past numerous blueberry farms and we stopped for lunch at Red Lobster in Muskegon. Continuing north on 31, just past Manistee we turned onto 22 north, which followed the coast of Lake Michigan but most of the time the lake was not visible from the highway. At one point, south of Frankfort, we enjoyed a scenic turnout that provided a fantastic view of Lake Michigan.

A little further north we stopped at the Point Betsie Lighthouse.

From Point Betsie we made it back to Hwy 31, which took us into Traverse City, MI, out destination for the day. We drove 347 miles today and our high temperature was 83. The top was down most of the day.
