Northeast or Bust; Day 16

When we departed our motel this morning at 8:05 it was cloudy and 49 degrees.   Today was to be all Interstate riding and Bill was back leading the pack.

We rode west to and around Cleveland and then south towards Columbus, OH.  At exit 131 on I-71 we stopped for gas.  When Gary attempted to restart his motorcycle – it wouldn’t.  His F1 error light was on just like it was before he replaced his fuel pump the day before yesterday – bummer!

Gary called ASK Powersports, a Honda Dealer in Columbus and explained his predicament.  They said they would not work on Goldwings older than 2010 models.  Not even for travelers from out-of-town.  No help was provided or offered at all.  Not a good representation for Honda motorcycles.

Gary then attempted to rent a truck and trailer to haul his bike home.  Nobody he called would rent a pick-up truck or van for a one way trip to Kansas City.  Box vans were more than he was willing to pay.  So he called Rod (back home) and asked him to come get him.  Rod and Bill (Gary’s brother-in-law) agreed and should be well on their way by now with a trailer to haul the motorcycle home.

Bill called AAA for a tow to get Gary’s Goldwing across the street to the motel.  They would not tow the trailer and Bill was having a difficult time dealing with them so we gave up and pushed the wing across the street.  I hope no Harley riders were filming it.  When we left Gary he was checked into a Holiday Inn Express waiting comfortably for their arrival.

We originally stopped for gas around 11:00 and were back on the road at 3:20.  The rest of us continued on our journey.  We rode south into Columbus and got caught in some heavy traffic before heading west on I-70 through Dayton.  Along the way we ran into some more traffic snarls.

We stopped for the day at Brookville, OH.  Soon after we stopped it was raining here.  We rode 283 miles today but 12-15 of those were me looking for a phantom U-Haul dealer north of Columbus.  Our high temperature was 61.

Rob’s Family Restaurant was very near our motel so we walked there for dinner.  They had a LARRAPIN good buffet dinner with beef, shrimp, fried chicken fish and much more.  We hit the jack-pot at this place – but now we’re stuffed.

No pictures today.
