Break from Winter; Day 12; Moriarty to Woodward

We left our hotel in Moriarty, NM a little before 8:00 under sunny skies with a temperature of 21. Our route today was I-40 eastbound, 335 northbound on the east edge of Amarillo, TX, 60 northeast into Oklahoma, 283 north to Shattuck, and 15 east to Woodward. We lost an hour today when we drove from mountain zone time to central zone time.

About 64 miles down I-40 the Poon was getting 30 mpg, which is the best I've ever seen on this car. It didn't last a lot longer but mileage today was still around 27 mpg. Here is blurry photo proof of the 30 mpg.

We stopped in Tucumcari, NM to stretch and score a cup of coffee. We stopped in Bushland, TX, just west of Amarillo, for a desperately needed bathroom break and to gas up Poonie.

I have ben hankering for some good pizza so while stopped in Bushland I Googled the best pizza in Amarillo. We ate lunch at 575 Pizza and it was LARRAPIN good!

On the north edge of Canadian, Texas we stopped to see the Historic Canadian River Wagon Bridge. It is now used for walking and bike riding only. The deck of the bridge is a composite type material like that used on decks. The bridge is a little over 6 tenths of a mile long. It crosses the Canadian River and runs parallel to (and between) the railroad bridges and highway 60.

In Shattuck, OK we stopped so I could photograph a collection of windmills.

When we arrived in Woodward, OK we refueled Poonie and scored a DQ ice cream treat before checking into our hotel at 6:00. Our high temperature was 52 and we drove 433 miles. We enjoyed a dip in the hot tub before calling it a night.
