Shawnee to Lakin

My brother, Carl, his wife, Marge, Chris, and I are on our way to Chama, NM to attend a wedding. One of our cousin's sons is getting married there on June 10th. It should be a good time.

We left Shawnee, KS at 8:00 am and took off westbound, Carl and Marge on their Goldwing, Chris and I in our car. We stopped for lunch at Mary's Restaurant, a little hole-in-the-wall place in Great Bend, KS. The food was very good.

Our next stop was Jetmore, KS.

My mother's maiden name was Schechter and she grew up here. We stopped at the old Schechter home to take some pictures. It is hard to believe that all nine of them lived in this small home. It is proof that you don't need a boat load of money and a big house to raise children who grow up to be wonderful successful people.

The Hodgeman County Courthouse is in Jetmore and they have a war memorial on the grounds with names of war veterans inscribed in the monument. We found three of my uncle's names.

We stopped for the evening at the Cobblestone Inn and Suites in Lakin, KS. It is a very nice place to stay. Our daughter-in-law's parents live in Lakin so we called them up and visited with them for awhile. Tom is an expert wood worker and he showed us around his shop. It was great seeing them.
